Home Learning

In Team Awa the children will bring home a Reading folder with a new book to read from Monday to Thursday. There is also pack of alphabet and/or ‘high frequency’ word cards. When your child can read the words in their pack it is a good idea to encourage them to begin to spell them too.
Some children now have spelling homework too, check their home learning book to see if your child does. Spelling is done each night with the students writing each of their words onto the practice sheet in their books. If you need some different or interesting ideas to help your child to learn their words, feel free to try out some of the ideas below the videos.
These are links to some of the alphabet songs and blends phonics song we use in class. The alphabet song especially is good for students as they are learning their letters because it includes the sound of the letter as well as the letter itself. You may like to sing these at home with your child to help them learn their sounds.

Writing words
When students are practicing writing their high frequency words and spelling words there are many different ways to make their learning fun.
Try some of these ideas.

Maths / Numbers
We use songs to help us with our counting and numbers too.
You could sing some of these at home.
